I Am A Guillotine is an act of political resistance in the form of a tabletop roleplaying game for one player.

You are a revolutionary in pursuit of a fascist figure who is in your city for a public appearance that you aim to violently cut short. Your goal is to isolate your target from their security and strike them by landing on the same card space as them. If security would enter your space, you are caught in the act and arrested or worse.

To play, you need:

• a deck of playing cards

• four tokens or miniatures, one for your character, one for your target, and two for target security

• About an hour of free time

• Optionally a journal or device for recording your story

This game is part of the Analog Violence game jam and accordingly made free to download and play. Perfect bound print editions available at worldchamp.io/store.

Gave this a shot today and had a fun time!! The prompts and challenges are thought provoking and create a really solid, grounded story that, in my opinion, is the heart of the game. In all, I played it twice using dice as tokens, a deck of playing cards I keep in my bag, and the notes app on my phone. It's that easy to lay out, which I like a lot!

The gameplay itself was simple and easy to grab onto, but I found myself wanting more of a challenge when it came to winning. Not a terrible thing, since as I said, the beating heart of this game is its narrative and journaling! For players like me who wanna strategize a little more without having to use jokers though, I recommend putting one or two more security tokens down in various places so you have more roaming obstacles to avoid.

Otherwise, I give the art and writing of this project a chef's kiss. It's extremely evocative and artful, and I would say it balances relevance and timelessness in a very beautiful, in-your-face sort of way.

Keep up the awesome work! This here is ART!

this is great thank you! I definitely wrestled with what winning/losing was in a game like this during design, I didn’t want the player to win automatically but I also didn’t want it to be too hard or have an ending that went against the power fantasy aspect of the game itself . The journey is more important than the destination, especially when this is paired with my other game Manifesto.  I appreciate the feedback!
