Preparing The Ghost
A downloadable game
“The future is in the hands of those who explore...
and from all the beauty they discover while
crossing perpetually receding frontiers, they
develop for nature and for humankind an infinite
love.”
— Jacques Yves Cousteau, Oceanographer
In this game, you portray a group of oceanographers on a small deep sea exploration
vessel in search of undiscovered species of squid. You do not need to know facts about the ocean or real squid to play. You will act out scenes both underwater in the vessel in “current time” and on land in flashbacks, exploring your characters’ relationships with humanity, each other, and the depths.
To play, you’ll need
• the papercraft d8 that came with this game (or use a standard d8 if you must)
• A group sheet to chronicle your ship’s depth, character placement, and squid discoveries
•Writing utensils
• Tokens, one per player to mark ship locations and another for the group to share to mark your ship’s depth
• 3-6 players, at least one of whom is familiar enough with the rules to facilitate the game (probably you reading this)(this does not make you game master, every player is of equal decision making power)
Rules are printed on a single sheet and folded as a mini zine. If you're unfamiliar, check out this youtube video for how to cut & fold.
Group sheet and printable papercraft d8 files are available for free and listed as "demos" on this page!
