CyberMetal 2012

is a tabletop roleplaying game of demons, metalheads, and weirdos surviving and thriving in an isolated city of warped technology in an alternate timeline featuring tons of analog ink illustrations, intuitive dice mechanics for fans of Mothership or Blades in the Dark, fascinatingly weird worldbuilding, and much more.

Pickup the hardcover tome edition, software application card packs, expansion zines, and more at worldchamp.io/store.

Cybermetal 2012 runs on a quick and efficient d100/2d10 system that feels intuitive for any experienced roleplayer but is easy to learn for newcomers too.

  • When a character wants to do something difficult, awesome, or particularly interesting, they roll d100 hoping to get equal to or under a given Skill Threshold to determine success/failure.
  • The player chooses one of their d10 and assigns it as the amount of damage they give/battery charge they lose with their chosen action.
  • The remaining d10 determines the Fallout, or how things get better or worse for the gang from there.

Items, social standing, faction interactions, assistance, and more can affect these variables, allowing players the opportunity to get clever and skew things in their favor while still allowing casual players compelling options with dynamic results.

Different Hardware (physical body), Operating Systems (role/class), and swappable Software (momentary specialty or sub-class) give players varied abilities that bend these basic rules, as well as offering specialized gear, unique contacts, social responsibilities, and more, making every character decision an interesting one with tons of story potential attached.

I *adore* this, wow! Just one small mechanical question: does every PC start with a Software? It's not explicitly said anywhere.

thank you! The expectation is yes, if you want a software you have one, since we as players are dropping into these characters lives in-media-res, they probably have one installed already but it isn’t mandatory. It’s left as an implication instead of a setup rule so you can decide per character how they interact with software in their everyday lives.

A super fun game on its own and also one of the most inspiring examples of game design for other designers. Lots of great design tech (fallout, for instance) to pull out of the game and put into your own. Definitely one of my biggest influences.

A feast for the eyes. It's like getting punched in the cerebellum by a blood-soaked metalhead wrapped in billboard vinyl. Another searing "Vass dram" of art and rules.

The color here is fantastic and unexpected. In another designer's hands, this book would have been black with pops of neon. Instead, you get rich colors and shades found in modern DTC brands. Perfect for subversion.

⭐⭐⭐⭐.5/5 (But 5/5 on the built-in rating system. Take that Itch.)

CyberMetal 2012 is on GoodReads.. you're kind of inconsistent on whether it's Cybermetal 2012 or CyberMetal 2012 (with capital M), but I went with CyberMetal 2012, because it is both more cyberpunk and more metal.. \m/ \m/

CM2012 hits! Such an inspiration. I made a bookmark for it! Geared to be a fun handout for players--

I love this so much!

Hi! I don’t know if it’s the right place to ask, but I’ve noticed the text about drugs (p.54) mentions rolling 4d10 to create drugs. It looks like the table is missing a column for mediums.

Any chance we get an errata?

you're right! medium went missing somehow between writing and print.

Here is the d10 method of using a drug:

d10method
1Immersion
2Dissolvable
3Cigarette
4Edible
5Injection
6Vapor
7Drink
8Pill
9Snort
10Ritual

Hi,

I purchased the physical book of Cybermetal 2012 and the DLC zine. I tried to forward my receipt but the email gets bounced back to me. Is there a way to get the PDF? Am I using the wrong email? The email I used was axv@workdchampgame.com and axv@worldchampgame.com

it’s just .co not .com! And the first address looks like a spelling error with world. That should fix it!

Oh! I'm a dope lol. thank you for responding. I went ahead and purchased both PDFs. the game is very cool and I wanted to support the author.

I grabbed the physical from your webstore, does it come with a pdf?

yes, just forward your receipt to axv at worldchampgame dot co and I’ll send you a download key

Nice; unless you're color blind making the book impossible to read.

I posted it below but I’m still working on getting an RTF file published so it will be easier for everyone to read, hopefully within the next two weeks as I juggle shipping physical rewards to backers

Hi Adam, running my first game of Cybermetal 2012 next week, any chance the more easy to read RTF is ready soon? Thanks for an awesome game!

unfortunately I let this slip my mind as I’ve been on tour for the last 7 weeks! I’m going to work on that when I get home but probably won’t be ready for your first play session. Hopefully will have that uploaded before December, thanks for the reminder!

this still happening?

Is this still planned? Just wondering as I picked this up as part of the current bundle

I cannot wait to get some hands-on time with this game. It's bristling with attitude and style, and just full of energy. Let's GOOOOOO

let me know how your adventures go! If your gang needs a sleepy stoner who never gets off the couch, let me know and you can use my current PC

This game rocks. Here's me gushing about it for 5 minutes, in case you somehow haven't been convinced to buy it already.
